The name BLUE MOON is given to the 2nd full moon of any calendar month. The last one was seen on July 31, 2004, and the next one is due May 31, 2007 for most of the western hemisphere including the US. In the next 20 years there will be only 17 more.
To have a blue moon, the first of 2 full moons in a given month has to occur early in the month and then the 2nd one arrives at the end.
