Hearing His voice
As our Good Shepherd, Jesus promises that we can hear and know His voice.
This does not, however, have to be some mysterious, mystical process.
In fact, you may be surprised to learn that God speaks to you quite often.
I would venture to say He has spoken to you lately and may be speaking to you right now in some way.
God speaks to us through His Word.
God will never lead us contrary to His written Word. It is our litmus test, our bedrock, our absolute.
God speaks to us through circumstances.
Those circumstances can include failure. Jonah certainly heard God through his mistake. God may even speak to us through tragedy or hardship.
C. S. Lewis wrote that, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains. It is His megaphone to arouse a deaf world."
God speaks to us through His peace.
When we live in God's will, we enjoy His peace.
Do you need God to make a crucial call in your life? Then listen for His peace.
And once we have heard God's voice, what should we do?
We must follow. Jesus calls, we respond. He whispers, we move.
We follow—and then we keep on listening.

Isn't it amazing? Even angel food cake has it's day.. I'm not partial to it, but I do eat it once in a while. It's the only cake Wendell is really allowed to have, and that, limited. I'd rather have yellow or double chocolate cake.. What's your favorite cake??

08/14/06 The Cease-Fire That Isn't

Last night my friend Alvin Day spoke briefly at our church. He talked about patience, about waiting for the Lord's timing. He spoke of Abraham's impatience with God's schedule which resulted in Abraham having an illegitimate son, Ishmael. As we know, Ishmael was the father of the Arabs, out of whom came Islam. So one man's impatience resulted in a hate-filled religion intent on destroying the rest of the world.
Today we can see the results of impatience in the ill-conceived "Cease-Fire" resolution that has just been announced by the UN Security Council. Can anything good come out of the UN? If the latest Security Council resolution is any indication, the answer to that question is a resounding "NO!"
Israel, the official Lebanese government and the real rulers of Lebanon, Hezbollah, have all signed off on the resolution. But both sides know that the "Cease-Fire" can never hold. So it's just good PR to agree to something that most of the world wants, knowing that it's all for show.
Hezbollah says it agrees to the resolution. But it says it will not stop fighting as long as there is one Israeli in Lebanon. So as far as Hezbollah is concerned there is no "Cease-Fire," because according to the resolution Israel will remain in Southern Lebanon until a replacement force arrives.
The full Israeli cabinet, with one abstention, agreed to the resolution. But Israel has properly retained the right to respond to any aggression by Hezbollah. Virtually everyone concerned knows that the trigger-happy zealots of that terrorist gang will not be able to resist lobbing missiles at Israeli civilians. And when they do, the make-believe "Cease-Fire" will be history. It's anyone's guess whether the "Cease-Fire" will "cease" the firing for hours or days. I will be shocked if it last more than a week.
Now, what about the much-vaunted replacement force the resolution call for? It is to consist of 15,000 Lebanese troops, supported by 15,000 UNIFIL troops. A paper tiger and a pretend tiger; what a combination.
In essence, the Lebanese army does not exist. Oh, they have guys in uniforms who carry rifles and such. But a trained, motivated, professional army? Better look elsewhere. The Lebanese army is AFRAID of Hezbollah. Why do you think they haven't exerted control over this ragtag group of terrorists before now? Because they are scared. Does anyone think moving 15,000 of them into the South will somehow give them courage? Hezbollah has been telling the Lebanese "army" what to do for years. That's not going to change because they have some UN troops hanging out with them.
What about UNIFIL. As I described in a recent article the initials UNIFIL stand for UN Interim Force in Lebanon. This "interim" force has been temporarily in Lebanon for over 28 years. They cannot fight; they can only "observe". They should have been removed years ago. Instead, their "mission" (whatever it is) has been extended for one more year by this resolution.
So we have 15,000 guys who are afraid to fight supported by 15,000 guys who are not allowed to fight. (The UN troops are again there to observe and provide "humanitarian assistance. The only use of force allowed in the resolution is for self-defense; see LINK below.) Their opponent is a heavily armed force of dedicated fanatics who are willing to die in order to get their way. If they say "Boo!" the Lebanese and the UN guys in their cute little powder-blue helmets are going to run as fast as they can.
Personally, I do not believe the Israelis are going to turn over the buffer zone they have won with the lives of brave soldiers to a pretend army. If they do, Hezbollah will chase the boys in blue out, move their rockets right back into the same positions, and continue bombing Israeli civilians. I think Israel is going along with this, knowing that Hezbollah will start the fighting again very soon. They are hoping (probably in vain) that the "International Community" will then realize that a true international force that knows how to fight will be deployed to rein in Hezbollah.
Shortly after Hezbollah's unprovoked attack on Israel (which was the start of the current conflict) the United States and Great Britain proposed a resolution which would have provided for a true international force. This force would have been made up of professional soldiers from NATO. It would have had the ability both to enforce the peace and to defend itself from attack by any means necessary.
This force would also have had a mandate to enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1559, which in 2004 called for the immediate disarming of Hezbollah and other armed militias which did not submit to the authority of the elected Lebanese government. Of course, France torpedoed this reasonable plan by threatening to veto it unless it was watered down considerably. The watered down version was what was released last week.
If all the "international community" can offer is a paper tiger and a pretend tiger, I say leave Israel alone and let them do the job they started. They didn't ask for this war; it was thrust on them when Hezbollah entered Israel, murdered eight soldiers and kidnapped two others, and then started killing civilians with rockets. Now that Israel has started to defend itself, it is very easy for countries which are not under attack to wring their hands and cry about peace.
Let he who is willing to risk his country's troops to defend peace cast the first stone at Israel. Otherwise, let him shut up, and let Israel do what they have done so well for decades. Let them fight vicious terrorists in order to survive, all the while making the world safer for the rest of us.

MORE BIRTHDAY
Birthday girl J.J. in the black shirt.. opening one of her gifts..Though I tried to get all the birthday persons, I missed Mandy for some
reason....well, actually, I didn't miss her at all.. I did get one picture, but
if I'd posted it, she would have fried me... it wasn't very flattering.........
So....... will get one this week before her big day on the 16th.
Incidently, John and JJ's birthdays are both on the 17th.
A BIRTHDAY DINNER
Might as well start with cake, eh? We had a lovely birthday supper tonite.. hot dogs and hamburgers by request.. and then cake and ice cream....mmmmmmmThe rest of the menu included fresh grapes and watermelon and a wonderful tossed salad..

IT'S TRUCK DRIVER'S DAY !!!

For years, Wendell had a CDL license and drove one of these big rigs carrying bulk mail nightly to Syracuse, Buffalo, and other places. Paul has a big rig of his own and is planning to open his own business when things slow down where he works. Atta Boy !!!!
Without the truckers, we'd have to wait till our fruits, veggies, (and all our groceries really)
would be in season. Thank you truckers for all your hard work.

TODAY'S DEVOTIONS
Open for me the gates where the righteous enter; and I will go in and thank the Lord. Those gates lead to the presence of the Lord, and the godly enter there. I thank you for answering my prayer and saving me!

Prayer brings us to His presence
[Psalm 118] pictures a victorious yet battle-weary king at the helm of a throng of grateful people entering the gates of the temple to thank God for saving them. During those times, the temple represented God's presence—the place where followers would go to pray to the Lord. Today, we enter into God's presence in a car, at work, or in the aisles of a grocery store—wherever we take time to pray to him. We can be sure God hears our prayers and answers each one wherever and whenever they are uttered. And by doing so, he gives us even more reasons to pray.
Just like the victorious king in this psalm, we should enter God's presence by thanking him for answering prayers. What answers to prayer are you thankful for today?

BUBBA HAS SHINGLES
Those of us who spend much time in a doctor's office should appreciate this!
Doesn't it seem that more and more that physicians are running their practices like an assembly line? Here's what happened to Bubba:
Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had.
Bubba said, Shingles. So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.
Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had.
Bubba said, Shingles. So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room.
A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had.
Bubba said, Shingles. So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.
An hour later the doctor came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said shingles.
The doctor asked, “Where?”
Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want them??"

FEELING LIKE A CRAB
i haven't posted for the last few days because I have been feeling like a crab. I'd rather not pass that on in a blog. It's just a lousy temperment that comes once in a while, but it does come. I believe it comes from a lack of rest, aching body, and working too many hours on my feet.So I try to lay low till it passes.
Today is a beautiful sunny day- it's 65 degrees right now, but will go to 78 later today for a high. Well, who could ask for anything more? Today I am gainfully employed and will be off the weekend. We are planning to have a picnic on the Sabbath with a birthday cake for JJ, John, Mandy, and Wendell.. whose birthdays are all this week. YIKE!
I think I bought the best gift for Wendell... and since he won't be reading this, (at least not before his birthday), I can tell what I got him. I bought a Trak Phone.. a cellular phone. It's a good deal- I bought him 250 minutes to go with it. He's not been feeling too well lately and has a bit of swelling in his thighs and legs.. knees so sore .. so I figured travelling as far as he does to try to go to work, he needs this for his safety. There is no way he'd be able to walk for help to find a phone. I like this little phone.. you pay ahead and call anywhere. When the minutes are done, you recharge it with more minutes by purchasing another card. I like the idea.

CHECKING IN ON TUESDAY

Good morning, bloggers and all who visit. What a beautiful day it is today in western PA. It is going to be a nearly perfect one with the temperature at 78 degrees as a high....... how are things on the west coast, Cozasalad? Ah.... my kind of weather.
Today I am not gainfully employed, but will be going this morning to have orthotics custom made for my shoes. My insurance company has approved this, and you can't imagine how very thankful I am for that little fact. I can hardly wait to get them done and in my shoes. They say it takes a couple weeks. At least the ball is rolling in a right direction.
I've discovered I'm not alone with my plantar fasciitis. Daughter Jennifer has it and has had orthotics made for her for a long time. I'll be happy to have the support to my sore feet.

FEELING SECURE ON AOL????
Well, now, here's a bit of frightening news for all of us on AOL..take a look at the TechCrunch blog... take a deep breath first.....you're gonna need it.
SCRIPTURE SAYS......
" I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. "
I Timothy 2:9-15
God provides order in His world. He's layed out a plan for His own, and expects us to be compliant. In our sinfulness, we defy Him at every turn so it seems.
I look around me.. I'm really horrified many times at what I observe in women. I can speak out here because I AM a woman.
The way some dress makes ME feel embarrassed, but they must think it's okay- it's not- and the authority on this matter comes directly from scripture.
What has happened here? Where is modesty? I find lack of modesty offensive to my eyes.
I honestly don't care to see 5" below your umbilicus. And I don't want to see your pretty undergarments exposed to the world-- or the lack of them. Don't women ever look in a mirror before they leave the house?
I cringe every time I am aware of a woman in the pulpit. You won't find that in my church. It is directly disobedient to our Lord. I'm not saying there are not places for well educated women in the church- just that scripture says they are not to be in positions of authority. So how do Christian women determine that they have a right to be teachers in the church? It's so plain and simply written in various places in scripture.
Do they simply skip over the parts that don't appeal to them?
