This is the Sabbath.. Wendell and I plan to be in church this morning despite the severe temperatures we should have. 89 degrees with the humidity at 85%.. Uncomfortable. There is also some sort of advisory that says "WINDY".. I wonder if that is the tail of Ike?
But that will not have any bearing on our trip down to church. We are both up and moving.
The generous outpouring of rain we had this week made Lake Blair, full to capacity, overflow the banks flooding down into the front yard. HOORAY for this little bit of flooding that brought back the green in our grass. We had noted last week that everyone's lawns locally was looking identical to the fields where straw was harvested. Ours was not the worst, but the ones that were, are now looking like they might recover.
Years ago when we installed the trailer for my mother, we bought plugs of Zoysia grass. It's amazing stuff. I think that's why we didn't look as bad as our neighbors who have the more immaculate looking lawns otherwise. Zoysia grass is pretty much drought resistant, traffic resistant, and the more you leave it alone, the better it looks. It grows lush.. but short, and weeds don't seem to get a foothold. When we felt it took hold well, we took plugs and planted it here in our front yard. Wish we'd planted a lot more of it. Recently, someone told me that if you are seeding your lawn, you should always mix a handful of white clover in your seed.. interesting. We tend to naturally have an abundance of white clover ... and of course, our annual crop of dandelions puts our neighbors to shame.. hehehe..
Time to hit the shower.. A good day to all.. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy!
