A DAY AT RACCOON STATE PARK

After 2 hours of travel and kids asking "are we there yet?" "are we getting closer?"....... we finally arrived where Wendell works every day.. Raccoon Creek State Park. It's a beautiful place covering 7500+ acres of woodland, streams, lake and beach. Lots of campsites and cabins, and plenty of wildlife.
Wendell was anxious to show us all a beaver dam close up.. no beavers, just their handiwork.
This is the supposed 'home' of the beavers.. inside this old sycamore tree.

Look at how perfectly straight that dam is. This is on Traverse Creek inside the park.
Paul said he saw birdhouses high in the trees. It turned out he was looking at bat boxes. They use these to encourage the bats to move into rather than the cabins.

I am completely envious!!! I wish I could have gone! It looked like such a great day...the weather perfect...and the sight of the lake makes me want to take the kids swimming again!!!! Did they have a good turn out?...never mind...I will have to ask Dad about it.

Dad said there were about 83 there at the dinner.. they had about 100 guests who signed up. There was plenty of food, but the seating was inadequate for those who attended.
The dessert table was a favorite- Joyce had 2 pieces of pie and cookies too.. I had apple pie and it was delicious- your Dad had pumpkin pie even though.. well... I asked him to eat more of the meat and pierogies.. or salad .. anything other than pie.. He said it was delicious. So much for my pleading. Some went back for more desserts.. there was a lot left.
