BONE CHILLING..

Good morning bloggers! It's a chilly damp day here. Brrrrrr... I haven't been able to get warmed up since yesterday~kinda chilled to the bone despite a long sleeved shirt and a heavy robe.

Mandy must be feeling some better as her car is gone and that's a good sign she's back to work today. I suspect she had some kind of virus. I believe I may have one too.. I spent nearly all day yesterday sleeping..aching..chilling.. nauseated. hmmmm

It's Saturday, September 30.. the very last day of the month. Sad to see it go..it seemed to fly by so quickly. Tomorrow begins a new month promising more bone chilling weather and a hint of winter to come. It was in the low 40s this morning.. but only to get to the mid 50s today with rain.

It's a quiet morning.. Wendell is sleeping yet.. but it's time for me to rise and shine and get on with the day.
Gainful employment is high on the list of 'todo's today. I'll be hitting the shower momentarily.

SAY KIDS, WHAT DAY IS IT?

IT'S BUBBLE GUM DAY !!!! WOOHOO !!
Yes, today our nation is recognizing the fine art of chewing bubblegum. Bubblegum hasn't been one of my favorite pastimes, but chewing gum certainly is. I love to chew gum much to my dentist's dislike.
The act of chewing gum I believe is a stress reliever. I'm not chewing anyone out when I'm chewing my gum.
It freshens the breath and whitens the teeth... so says the package... and I believe that is also true.
Sometimes a mint gum will settle a minor upset stomach.
As a child I remember loving to buy DoubleBubblegum.. and then you got a comic on the inside of the wrapper. Oh.. I'm showing my age here I'd wager... Do they still sell Double Bubblegum with the comics?
And I remember walking to Johnson's store and buying Bubblegum Cards..you got a square of bubblegum with a card inside.. sort of like baseball cards.. Brother Bill saved the baseball cards. I think it was Jane who saved Davy Crockett Cards.. and both had quite the collection.

IT'S FRIDAY !

HOORAY FOR FRIDAY !! It means the weekend is with us.
Unfortunately for me, or fortunately, looking at it from a mercenary point of view, I will be gainfully employed. I have to remind myself periodically that employment = health insurance which we vitally need.

So, did you all stay warm last night? Our temperature was in the low 40s.. and the expected high is only 54. We are on the downward slide into winter..

Mandy has the latest virus going around.. she's been miserable with sinusitis for several days, and today she's looking ghastly and has taken the day off. I'm trying hard NOT to get that virus. I'll have the Clorox out today and then the Lysol..

JJ has a post on things for which you are thankful.... I liked that idea.. perhaps visit her site and put your own items for thanksgiving there. I found it refreshing to be able to list 10 things.. uplifting. I could have gone on for 150 items, but I think that would be overwhelming for one to read through... though the thanksgiving is sincere.

It's morning. Wendell left for work some time ago. I've been reading- again. My real temptation is to just go back to bed for another hour or so. I'm still sleepy. But I need to work on my office schedule for my patients. It's still not quite right.

Well..... Off to begin my day.. lots to accomplish.

HOW DO YOU WORSHIP THE LORD?

The great thing about owning a blog is that one can express their own opinion. One can state what they believe is true and right. Today I want to do that in regard to worship. I'm not an authority on scripture, obviously, but I know that which I have been taught by those who are in authority.

"Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you" (Deut. 4:1-2).

According to the Westminster Confession of Faith ~
"The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men . . . and that there are some circumstances concerning the worship of God, and government of the Church, common to human actions and societies, which are to be ordered by the light of nature, and Christian prudence, according to the general rules of the Word, which are always to be observed."

The prescription for worship is explicit in Old Testament scripture. They were given the direction by God and followed it to the letter. Any deviance from that direction had dire consequences.
Even so, we are in the New Testament times given directives by the Authority of God for what will be included in worship.
We have no license to change that which the Lord has given as example.
Embellishing is not an option nor man's opinion of what is pleasing to God or tradition.

"What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it" (Deut. 12:32).

The church dares not to 'offer strange fire' to the Lord. It is an offense to Him.
Whatsoever is not commanded is forbidden.
Remember Uzzah? There are many examples of this in scripture.
God is omnipotent- we have no right to change His directives.Indeed it is the height of arrogance to think that man can 'make worship more interesting' by invoking changes to what God has prescribed.
God knows the ways of man- give him an inch and he'll take a yard or more.. If you change one item.. you find through history that man eventually makes the changes permanent as if the law of God.
Chaos reigns as no one can really draw the line on the things permitted.
The church that deviates from the Regulative Principle has created a problem.. where do you stop? How do you stop? Worship becomes a circus and the farthest thing from what God has designed.
Our focus becomes lost.. that of worship of our Savior. It's lost in the entertainment with the focus on man.
Following God's directives for worship means that you can attend any church on Sabbath and fit right in. No questions of what is acceptable in His presence- if all follow the prescription He has given. No one would feel uncomfortable with the variations.. nothing added, and nothing removed. One is able to focus on Christ without distraction.
So here is what God requires as per scripture. There are many other supportive verses..I have chosen one for each item:

Preaching of the Word
(Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.2 Timothy 4:2)

Reading of the Word
(13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. I Timothy 4:13)

Meeting on the Lord's Day
(7On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. Acts 20:7)

Administering the Sacraments
(24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. I Corinthians 11:24-26)

Hearing the Word
(25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does. James 1:25)

Prayer
(6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6)

Sing Psalms(
16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:15)

The place and hour of worship is left to our circumstances. Certainly, going to the House of the Lord would lead us to wear clothes that are appropriate, again, according to our circumstances.
God does not look at the outward appearance of man, but the heart that is open to Him, ready to receive His Word.

TAKING ONE DAY AT A TIME

That should be the rule.. one day at a time. When I try to do more than that, I get very poor results. I am presently trying to schedule my patients around Thanksgiving. My office day is Thursday and so is Thanksgiving. Juggling has never been one of my best things.. but I try.

I was looking at the weather report this morning.. Lake Blair may make an appearance once again. I may be too tired to take that picture by the time it appears.. sorry.. one of these days.

Our visit with the attorney last night was very productive. By next week all should be settled.

I'm needing to get moving .. time is of the essence this morning. I'm ready to go as far as being dressed, but still have to pull all the paperwork together and then stop for breakfast at Bubba's.. that's David's name for McDonalds. Wonder how many TFAs are in an Egg McMuffin?
Does it bother you that Big Brother is trying to control what you eat?? I'm glad they are all into healthy choices, but the next thing you know, we'll all be eating grass because they think it's 'good for everyone'.. DUH
In our family, we have been making some healthy choices as far as food is concerned.. and the results are staggering in the bloodwork.. with the help of some pretty powerful medication too. I don't think I need BB telling me what is good and what isn't.. give me the facts and the statistics and I'll make my own choices, thank you very much.

I'm off my soapbox and on to better things.......
Thank you for all your prayer support. It is so precious to us. Pray for our nation and those who lead.. Pray for us with our health issues and that we make wise choices for our future.
Remember Nicki and Uncle Bob too who struggle with their health issues.
Give thanks that God has provided a skilled vet for little Heidi.. that she is improving. Heidi is the little dog who belongs to our friends in Maryland.

OUR CORNER OF THE WORLD

John came home this morning and told me something was 'going on' out on our road. I thought at first the township was finally here to get ready to lay sewage lines..Inquisitive person that I am (some call it nosey).. I took a long overdue walk to the garden~ camera in hand. Well, I don't think it was the township.. I saw a W&F tanker coming out of Doug and Judy's driveway.. I think their driveway was being paved before winter.
I stood on the porch and took this picture of the trucks in front of our place~ I noticed the temperature, the blue sky without any clouds to speak of, and that the air had a smell of fall. I also noticed the briar patch (some call it the berry patch or home of the groundhog) was turning a rusty color. Hmmmm


So I walked out closer to the garden and noticed that the red raspberries are producing again.. I believe this is the 3rd time this year. They are called everbearing, but usually produce 2 crops during the spring/late summer. The morning glories are taking over a section of them.. Charlie says we need to move them for next year.


Even so, that didn't stop me from picking a handful and enjoying them as I continued my walk. Mmmmmmm!!!!
The early spring ones and the ones today had no Japanese beetles. That makes them pleasant to pick.

The weight of this sunflower head has caused it to bend over severely. Their stalk has to be like wood to hold the whole plant up. These will become feed for the chickens.. and a few for a couple of grandchildren for a snack later this fall.
Another Mmmmmmm.. toasted sunflower seeds!

Though everything seems to be reaching it's peak and more, the flowers still are about as beautiful as they were in the early summer. Surrounded by weeds, but still flourishing. At this point, their only usefulness is for the eye. The tomatoes and other crops are pretty much done.

Back at home, the burning bush by the side of the house is beginning to live up to it's name. In a short few weeks it will be a brilliant red.. flaming, if you will..

Meanwhile, I turned toward the woods and saw the reddish tint on the trees.. Soon, very soon, these will also be brilliantly colored.. we just have to wait for the frost to begin the metamorphosis.



Back in front of the house, the impatiens are still flourishing as the flowers are in the garden. I love the flowers. They make me smile with their beauty. These are simple and colorful. That's a pot of spearmint in front of the impatiens. It grows nearly wild here. We tried to contain it... we'll see next spring how well we've done.

TULIP

This morning I've been doing some reading again.. this time on the views of John Calvin.

John Calvin , who lived at the time of Luther's Reformation in the 1500s, formulated a system of theology which I also share.
He takes a serious view of scripture as the infallible Word of God, adhering to it solely for all discussions- focusing on the Sovereignty of God at all times.
Scripture teaches that God by his Sovereign Grace has predestined the elect to salvation.
He regenerates us to where we desire Him, and it's not possible to lose our redemption.

Calvin states his theology in 5 critical points, though certainly there is more.

Total depravity-
"among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest."
Ephesians 2:3

"For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."
Mark 7:21-23

Unconditional Election-
"For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls"
Romans 9:11
" For he said to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy."
Romans 9:15-16
Some are elected to salvation, some are not.

Limited Atonement-"
"I pray for them. I don't pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours" John 17:9
Jesus prayed for the elect, not the whole world.
He died for the elect- Isaiah says at Jesus crucifixion 'he bore the sins of many'.. not everyone.

Irresistable Grace-
" But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name:who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
John 1:12,13
By the working of the Holy Spirit within our hearts and minds, the elect are called and cannot resist. We come of our own free will repenting of our sins and are regenerated.
God calls, we answer.

Perseverance of the Saints-
"being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ"
Philippians 1:6
You can't lose your salvation.

PREDESTINED

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

DEJA VOUS

I've been listening to the news on the radio... over and over playing comments by a former high ranking official in our land.
It reminded me of this.... Genesis 3:12,13: "the man said ' the woman you put here with me, she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it'.
Then the Lord God said to the woman 'What is this you have done?' and the woman said 'the serpent deceived me and I ate'".
Passing the 'buck' and not taking responsibility for our actions.. we are all so human.
Another picture to remind us of summer.. beautiful flowers and the butterflies.. lots of them this year.
It's such a lovely day today. The temperature is moderate and no rain.. Lake Blair is not even slightly wet. Hooray! One of these days I'll have to take a picture of the spot in the driveway that fills so full with water during hard rain that it looks like a lake.

Gainful employment is the plan for the day. Last evening was a fairly good one. I still don't understand the mentality that transfers patients out of one room and replaces them with another one or two.. mind boggling by times. I guess there is rhyme and reason to it, but it is escaping me right now. But I do the job I am required to do without complaint.. well, not much complaint anyway. I'm tired this morning.... so what else is new?
Well, I can't see my ankles YET, but they are there.. I'm sure of it. I noticed that my socks left indentations right above my ankles... there is still fluid there that needs to be taken off. No change in my weight today.. still at 10# of fluid weight loss.. You know, that's a lot of fluid.
I would estimate that there is still about 5#+ fluid on my legs.. excess fluid that is.
So I watch every morsel that crosses my lips..... low sodium is not my favorite.. rather blah.

Are you ready for October? It's coming swiftly. It'll be here in a week or less. Yike! Where did 2006 go? It seemed to fly by so fast.. soon it will be Christmas.. just a little over 12 weeks till it arrives!

No birthdays today to report.. September is a fairly quiet month.

For those who care, Wendell and I have an appointment with an attorney in Butler on Wednesday. He sounds like he'll help us without gouging our checkbook. Yes, that was a concern. We are transferring property, and this appointment will be to discuss the positives and negatives of the transfer the way we want to pursue it. It's a big step for us.. relinquishing the property we own in this world.. but we have no difficulty doing so.
So I ask for prayer for us as we take this giant step in our lives.. pray the attorney will be able to help us make the transfer without problem... that there will be no glitches along the way.
Pray that the entire procedure would be agreeable to all and that the outcome would be very positive. Posted by Picasa

AUTUMN IS HERE

Autumn is here.. so many gorgeous trees with leaves turning. I suppose we won't be seeing much of these sunflowers in the near future.. but they sure were beautiful.

The power was off for a few hours in the wee hours of the morning. It's always a stressor here- Wendell couldn't get ready for work and missed a day because of it. My CPAP stopped and woke me up gasping for breath.. I took it off and tried to sleep, but this morning I have such a headache. Apnea is likely the culprit.
Seems like the power has been going off and on about 2-3 times a week. That's a lot.

The weather report for today is supposed to be a sunny/partly cloudy one.. the high of 64. In the past 10 minutes the temperature has gone from 46 to 51. Looks like the day is well on it's way.
As for me, I'll be gainfully employed and need to hit the shower. Have a super fabulous day all..
Pray.. pray for us and for Nicki and Uncle Bob. Pray for our world leaders-- for hearts turned to Jesus. And pray for peace among all people.. that all would recognize Jesus and respond to his message of salvation.

AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE....


I've been doing a lot of thinking. Sometimes that's a dangerous thing, but today I have my mind set on something I believe the Holy Spirit has placed on my heart.
So much talk of global war and a Muslim takeover of this country in which we live. So just suppose we were overtaken for a moment..The rule of the day would most certainly be to round up all the Christians and murder them.. men, women, and children regardless of age. My burning question is:
Would there be enough evidence to prove that I/YOU were a Christian?
Would I be enough threat to be among the first rounded up?
Am I just a lukewarm follower of Jesus, or am I boiling hot and eager to spread the gospel message that Jesus lives and has provided a salvation- a way out- for all mankind through his resurrection?
Would I have enough fortitude to be martyred for Jesus?
Being a Christian living example is only the beginning. There are a lot of people out there living a 'good example' who are not believers in Christ. They will lose in the end as much as the overt Satanist.
Horrors ! you say? It's per scripture "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved".
It's not enough to be a good example.
I think back to when I was a teenager. My Mom said to me one day "be very careful what you do and say- there are people of which you are unaware who are watching you and want to be like you."
It's good advice. When I look back, I wish I'd had a stronger testimony for Jesus. I wonder sometimes what opportunities I had to present the gospel to someone and missed it because of one thing or another.. Alas, I cannot change history.
The evidence of the Holy Spirit living in you is ordered by scripture.. " The fruit of the Spirit refers to the virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness (meekness, humility) and self-control.
When you display irresponsible behaviour, pride, expressions of enmity, lack of love, and other works of the flesh (Galatians. 5:19-21), you are lacking the fruit of the Spirit.
If you have been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, you are eligible to receive the things of the Spirit of God. You must be willing to let the Holy Spirit produce these virtues within you (Gal. 5:22,23). "
Prayer is a vital ingredient here. I find myself praying all day long.
As your name or situation comes to my mind, I am praying for God's intervention in your life. We are instructed to pray without ceasing.. it comes naturally when you view the Father as just that- the omnipotent omnipresent being that He is. Awesome!
Almost daily I ask you to pray for me and for Wendell and some of our family or friends having difficulties in life.. I do this because I believe in the power of prayer. We've had too many prayers answered to not believe that they are effectual.
Have you ever had the experience of having your prayer answered as the words come from your lips?
Give thanks and praise to the Lord who has provided every little detail in your life.. bringing things and people together His way. Delaying you so you are protected from danger..So often I think..
"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"
I remember that I am loved by God and give thanks for that.
I acknowledge that the property upon which my earthly home sits does not belong to me, but has been lent to me for a season till I go to my heavenly home where God is preparing a place for me.
I've had the experience of not having a clue what to do next.. and being thrust into the arms of the Lord in blind faith. Awesome experience!!!
God is active in our lives.. we're a work in progress.. not good, but loved and saved from the wrath to come.
We reach out to him as a child reaches to his parent and trusts that parent to protect and give safety, and security. And just like a child, when we are hurt or fall down, we run to His arms for comfort.
No greater love could be expressed than someone who is willing to give his life for you. This is what Jesus did. All He requires is that you believe it.. and then live it.
Life is tough sometimes. We take abuse as Christians. We are living in a land that our forefather's claimed as 'One nation UNDER GOD'.. but that seems to be the farthest thing from our leader's minds these days.
Our constitution says we have the freedom to worship the Lord as we please..this was to prevent a 'national religion' from being installed.. but slowly, we now have a national religion.. called atheism.. denying God his glory and honor in our land.
Christians are denied the right to pray in public places. We should be alarmed... but there is apathy here.
Christians need to be awake and alert to what is happening around them.. and pray.
Enough said.

DORIS ELLEN BLAIR

I thought I might mention that today would be the day of birth of Wendell's sister that he never knew. She would have been 71 today. Doris was born prematurely when Wendell's Mom developed scarlet fever. She was deathly ill..the baby did live for an hour or two, but died that day. She is buried at North Union Cemetery.

A FUN DAY BEGINS

This morning Wendell and I had the pleasure of taking our grandkids and their parents to the park where Wendell works.
It was a super long trip for all of us.
This was one of the sights along the way.. the rail yard at Conway PA. There is currently a major landslide onto to the railroad tracks a bit farther south. This has tied up the railroad severely. All the signal lights are flashing red..
The Ohio River is on the other side of the tracks.


What once freaked me out totally is now a simple pleasure of life. At Ambridge, we crossed the Ohio River. I tried to get a picture of the 2 tug boats below us, but all I got in my photos was girders. Rats!
The kids ooooohhhed and awwwwwed at the tugs. They looked so huge below us.

A DAY AT RACCOON STATE PARK

After 2 hours of travel and kids asking "are we there yet?" "are we getting closer?"....... we finally arrived where Wendell works every day.. Raccoon Creek State Park. It's a beautiful place covering 7500+ acres of woodland, streams, lake and beach. Lots of campsites and cabins, and plenty of wildlife.
Wendell was anxious to show us all a beaver dam close up.. no beavers, just their handiwork.
This is the supposed 'home' of the beavers.. inside this old sycamore tree.

Look at how perfectly straight that dam is. This is on Traverse Creek inside the park.
Paul said he saw birdhouses high in the trees. It turned out he was looking at bat boxes. They use these to encourage the bats to move into rather than the cabins.

LUNCH AT THE REC HALL

Today was the Volunteer Award Banquet at the park. Wendell was told to invite his family if he desired, and he did. We took Paul, Amy and the kids. This was their first visit to Raccoon Creek State Park.
The food was more than fabulous.. just excellent in every way.




Finally some time for the kids to play on some slides and swings ..That's David heading up the slide steps with Joyce behind him.

TURTLE EGGS

We decided to take a look at where the snapping turtles had laid eggs and hatched them. On the way, there were huge mountains all along the road. These are ant hills.

The kids found the turtle nests. Actually they aren't nests at all, but just holes in the ground where the Mama turtle deposits a ton of eggs. The shells are all that remain. Joyce is holding one.. the eggs look a lot like ping pong balls, but have more of a leathery feel.. soft.

MUST BE A GOOD DAY

It must be a good day.. things are looking up here. I got on the scales today and have lost 5 more pounds of fluid. I knew there was a loss~ my feet are looking more like MY feet.. I have very small ankles for my size, and though I can't see them yet, they are definitely moving in that direction. I think about how much 5# is..... a sack of sugar/flour.. balance one on your legs..makes you tired pretty quick, eh? Now imagine 2 of them.. 5# on each leg and hold them there... no wonder my back ached and my legs too. And there is still swelling- more to lose yet.

If I'm not too badly mistaken, today is the autumn equinox~ fall is officially here. Yesterday I had to go shopping and as I drove down the road, I saw signs for local apples for sale. Sure sign of fall...... not to mention the reddish color to many of the trees. In another week or two, they will all be beautiful colors of autumn. God provides all the seasons each with a glorious beauty of their own.
It's 48 degrees this morning with a promised high of 68. Yep, fall is here. Typical weather. I'll be getting the little heater out soon to take the chill off the bedroom in the morning. We've already been doing that in the bathroom in the morning.

Today I am gainfully employed. It's Friday, and that means the hospital will discharge half of the patients the first 4 hours of my shift, and then start admitting the second 4 hours. It happens weekly..like clockwork.

Saturday Wendell is excited about taking us to the park for a picnic. I'm looking forward to it also. He came home yesterday with the report that he'd put the big lawn tractor in the lake. Well, not as bad as it sounds.. just the back wheels. Something to do with a drive shaft that was supposed to be repaired but wasn't. They may have him wear a life jacket to mow grass in the future. Hehehehe..

Time to get moving here. Remember prayer for us and for our family, Nicki, and Uncle Bob, and Janet too. We all appreciate your love and care for us. And don't forget our world leaders including our President and Congress.

BRRRRR.. CHILLY !

No, we didn't have frost, but it's not too far into our future. The radio says it was 44 degrees this morning.. and won't get to much more than 64 today...Brrrrrrrrr !!!! Chilly!!!

Again I have much to accomplish for the day. My relief nurse is working today and I'll work for her in the office next Thursday. I'm enjoying the day off.

I get more and more curious as the radio commentaries cover the news of our President being degraded at the UN. The coverage is so anti-American.. as if the world were laughing at him.
What makes me curious are the members of Congress- the deafening silence from all of them in coming to his defense. Does that bother anyone else?
And then the reports of a large Anti-Iranian near riot outside the UN that wasn't even covered by our press corp?? Does THAT bother anyone?
Well, how about the threats to our nation?? to destroy us. These people are open and evil.
They say they have the nuclear weapons inside the US already and are just waiting for the word to detonate...... the Pakistani reporter that wrote in his media to all Muslims in America to get out now.. especially New York and Washington DC. Our country seems to be sitting back in apathy. Does this bother you? It bothers me. I keep wondering what God has planned for us. I pray He keeps us in safety.
Above all, remember that though men may threaten and make frightening statements, Our God is still the One in control of this world. That should comfort our hearts , but cause fear and dread in the unbeliever.

Okay... off my soapbox and on with the day.

Pray for peace in our land and in the world. Pray for our leaders and all world leaders- that their hearts would turn to Christ.
Pray for us- we have many health issues .. and remember Janet who faces more surgery, and Nicki and Bob who are struggling with illness also.

DREARY DAY?

Brrrrrrrrrr..!! It's 51 degrees this morning.. and it's been raining.. Lake Blair is back , but if the rain stops, it will soon be gone also. We are thankful for the good drainage of our driveway area..Flooding here has never been a real problem.
The weather prognosticator says the temperature today won't get much above what it is at the moment. In a few short weeks, our trees will resemble the picture here.. for now, they are in transition~ not yet colored , but you can see the sort of yellowy change to them anyway.. The maples show it the most, I think.

Yesterday, despite all my longing to not have to be the 'extra' secretary, I worked the full 8 hours. My first 4 hours I spent on Psych. It's a locked unit, and that makes me a bit nervous. I really like the staff there. They always make me feel as close to 'home' as possible. But the paperwork is confusing to me, and there is a lot of it. I don't get sent there too often, so I have to learn all the names of the staff over again. There are a few I know but they change a lot.
At 3pm, I called the nursing office to see if I was going home or what? No, back to my home unit.. So, when I arrived there, I was given the option of staying and taking an assignment for 4 hours while the 3-11 person got pulled to the transitional care unit. I opted for my own unit...... for about 5 minutes when I realized that the person coming in had to work 8 hours, and to upset her applecart by making her go somewhere else for the first 4 just didn't seem right. So I told her that I would be the one who would go. Funny how everyone thought that was just plain wonderful that I'd volunteer to be pulled in another person's place. I don't see it that way at all. I would expect that if I were in the other secretary's place, that someone would do that on my behalf also. It's just common courtesy. So off I went. I left the department totally at suppertime. I went out to my car with my banana and some tuna.. and sat down for a breather. I was having a decent evening. Yes, there were admissions, but I was getting better at their paperwork~ the specialty units all have their own ways of doing things.. Med-Surg has another way.. The TCU has an initial 12 pages of orders to be transcribed on the patient's admission. It sounds like a nightmare, but it's really quite simple. The first one I did a month or so ago, took me over an hour.. the 2nd one more like 40 minutes, and the following one about 30 minutes. That's where I was when I started yesterday.. Everything is preprinted, so you don't have to struggle to read doctor's scrawling. The nurses take the chart orders and check off 'yes' or 'no' to the various orders..Most were 'no' last evening, making my task simple.
On my way back from my supper break I ran into one of the secretaries from my home unit.. they were being totally slammed.. it was stressful for them. This secretary said that just as she was leaving for supper, the charge person gave her the names of 4 admissions that were coming.. and this was the slower side of the unit! I guess I made the right choice when I chose to be pulled.

So I'm off today and tomorrow as far as gainful employment goes. I have much yet to do here. It seems never-ending.
It's not yet 8am, but I need to get started on my day.

Keep us in mind today.. pray for us when you do.. how we appreciate that kindness. I didn't get to talk to Nicolle last evening, but assume she has gone home from the hospital. She is on my mind so often, I think of the verse that tells us to pray without ceasing.. each time her name comes to mind, I do just that~pray.
Uncle Bob is having a bad time with his legs.. we need to be praying for him too- if you haven't added him yet to your prayer list..
I thank the Lord for the goodly amount of health and strength He gives me each day.

RISE AND SHINE

Good morning all.. it's time to rise and shine.. It's 6:30am. UGH! We've had some rain overnight, and the temperature is to only get to 68 today.. quite a difference from the 80s of yesterday.
This is my 'off shift' day at the hospital. I don't care for this shift, as even if they give me the day off, they have me 'on call' for 4 hours at a time, so I really can't accomplish much. It starts at 11am, so the day is shot by 7:30 in the evening.

It appears that my body has shed another pound of fluid. That's 6# so far. My legs remain swollen for the most part. I have small ankles despite my large size but I haven't seen them in a few weeks. The left foot/leg is swollen from my toes to my knee, while the right foot looks more normal, but swollen from the ankle up, though not as bad as the other. The good thing is that I can get my shoes on without difficulty on both feet now.

Wendell came home from the park yesterday and said his knees weren't hurting as bad as before. We figure the weather has much to do with the pain~ as well as the bone to bone problem. It was a simply gorgeous day yesterday, and then, he'd had the right knee injected with cortisone last week. So together, the pain was reduced. Not gone, but less.
Today I'll try to get the appointment with the orthopedic surgeon to discuss knee replacement. JJ has already spoken with him about her dad, and the surgeon says Wendell needs at least 6 months after his cardiac surgery before they will do another elective surgery such as he is contemplating. And.. the longer the better. He's already got 6 months since the surgery in March this year. The surgeon also said it would be a while till he could see him~ when you're good, it's worth the wait. Another 6 weeks perhaps before seeing the surgeon, and then a few weeks more getting on the OR schedule.. and getting all the doctors to clear him for surgery. Perhaps closer to Thanksgiving..

It's nearly 7am now. Gotta get on the move.. Things to do, people to see, and places to go..
Pray for us. We are in need of prayer every day. How thankful we are to have praying friends and family.

Nicki is to be discharged today from the hospital. Remember her also if you would. Pray for her healing and that these present events won't be a severe setback. Pray for Bob too, as he assists her at home.

More Muslim Violence in Response to Pope's Remarks

If Muslims want to prove that their religion is a "religion of peace," they're certainly going about it the wrong way. In response to one line in a 3700 word academic speech on reason and faith by Pope Benedict, Muslims have attacked seven churches with firebombs and guns, and murdered a nun.
This violence has taken place in just three days. All indications are that much more violence against Catholics and churches is on the way, and that the Pope's life is in grave danger.
In fact, one Muslim cleric has issued an order to Muslims to kill the pope.
If there is anything that Muslims hate, it is freedom. They consider freedom to be extremely dangerous. Just look at the ferocity with which Muslims (many imported from other Islamic nations) are fighting freedom in Iraq. The idea of a free democracy in the Middle East is repugnant to them.
As one of my readers commented recently, Islam IS a religion of peace. They will allow you to be in peace as long as you obey their ridiculous, antiquated laws.
If not, you can have the sword.
To all the naïve Americans who continue to chant the mantra that Islam is a great, peaceful religion, I suggest a trip to any nation controlled by an Islamic government. You will find that there is no freedom to be found. You cannot say, read, eat or wear what you wish. Any violations result in swift violence or death, often without benefit of any legal process.
The idea of freedom of speech is particularly frightening to Muslims. If people can disagree with the Muslim clerics, if they are allowed to expose the lies and hypocrisy with which they control their people, the power of the clerics will quickly dissolve. And they couldn't handle that.
So women have been beaten because they showed their faces. Men have been beheaded for opposing Islamic preachers.
Ayatollah Khomeni issued a religious decree that a book was blasphemous and that the author, Salman Rushti, must be killed for writing it.
A Dane drew a cartoon about Mohammed, and deadly riots and Embassy burnings by Muslims were the result.
Now, because the Pope quoted a 14th Century emperor in a lecture to college students in Germany, his life and the lives of millions of Catholics are in danger.
One vacuous talking head on a network newscast posed the question, "Did the Pope's remarks cause the violence against the nun and the churches."
I wanted to shout at her, "No, you idiot! Words don't kill people. Fanatics kill people."
In his recent speech, Benedict quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and an educated Persian on the truths of Christianity and Islam. "The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said.
"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"
This was one small part of a lecture in which he discussed the need to keep violence out of religion, and mentioned several religions. But apparently Islam is the only religion which has a right to not be offended. And no other religion has the right to even discuss, much less criticize Muslims or Mohammed. And so there has been an outpouring of hate and violence all over the world that has included (in addition to the murder and the church bombings mentioned earlier) violent demonstrations against the pope in numerous Muslim nations.
Turkey is a mostly Muslim nation with a supposedly secular government.
Turkey's Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, almost immediately cast doubt on whether the pope's scheduled November trip to Turkey would be cancelled due to angry reactions to the pope's remarks from many leaders in the government. Turkish State Minister Mehmet Aydin rejected the pope's explanation on Sunday, stating, "He seemed to be saying he was sorry for the outrage but not the remarks themselves."
And in fact that was the case. The pope said that he was "deeply sorry" for the reaction to his remarks, but he did not say that they were not true. How could he? Everyone except the Muslims themselves can see that much of what Mohammed taught was "evil and inhuman." Mohammed personally smashed the heads of infants against stone walls when their parents refused to convert to his bloody religion.
How could that be described as anything but "evil and inhuman"?
Here is the pope's explanation: "At this time I wish also to add that I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims." He said that the condemnation of Mohammed's teachings "were in fact a quotation from a medieval text which do not in any way express my personal thought."
I confess that I was disappointed when the pope attempted to distance himself from his own remarks by stating that he was reading the words of the emperor, and that they did not reflect his personal feelings. If he didn't believe the statement to be true, why did he read it to the college students in the first place? Perhaps he was just trying to defuse the violent reactions of the peaceful Muslims in order to stop more murders of Catholics. But he should know that when you attempt to appease terrorists, you only embolden them.
Vatican spokesmen have said that the pope was only trying to provoke "dialogue" with Muslim leaders. They say that he was trying to get Islamic clerics to publicly state that violence was not a part of their religion. Well, it's impossible to have a "dialogue" with someone who has a gun at your head, and who believes it is his religious duty to kill you.
As to getting Muslim clerics to disavow violence, listen to what one Imam said to his followers: "Any good Muslim should take the opportunity to kill the dog from Rome if he gets the opportunity."
Muslim rhetoric has been violent as well. The leader of the Islamic political party in Turkey compared the pope to Hitler. A spokesman for the Muslim brotherhood said that the pope and President Bush are trying to bring back the Crusades.
Let's talk about the Crusades for a moment. Muslims often use the Crusades as an excuse for their violence today. And the liberal press and our public schools seem to be in league with them, parroting their rhetoric about the Crusades, but never mentioning the Muslim Crusades.
"What Muslim Crusades? I never heard of them." And you never will if your only source of information is the public school curriculum and our very liberal mainstream media. The facts are that the Crusades were in response to the murder of hundreds of thousands of Christians by Muslims intent on converting the world to Islam.
We'll go into this in much greater detail in future articles, but you should know that Constantinople (now called Istanbul, Turkey) was once the Capital City of The Eastern Christian Church. It was attacked and its inhabitants viciously slaughtered by followers of Mohammed because they refused to convert to Islam. During the Muslim Crusades Jerusalem was captured, and both Jews and Christians were killed or enslaved.
Most of the Middle East at that time was populated by Christians. But they were overrun by hordes of murderous Muslims. Many of the Christians fled; the rest were tortured. If they refused to convert, they were murdered. It was only after this violent purge of Christians in the Middle East that European kings finally sent soldiers to stop the violence and to free Jerusalem.
We will never solve the problem of worldwide Muslim terrorism until we understand the enemy. We have to stop thinking of them as reasonable people who can be reasoned with. You cannot reason with a man who is willing to strap bombs to his own body in order to kill innocent women and children.
We have to stop thinking referring to Islam as "a great religion." Just because something is big does not make it great. The only reason Islam is big is that they have used force to convert entire nations. (And since many - if not most - of these conversions are forced, can the converts truly be counted as Muslims?)
And we have to understand that there is only one way to stop this spreading evil.
Only when the hearts and minds of Muslims are changed will the violence end.
Missionaries from the truly peaceful religion, Christians who will spread the teachings of the Prince of Peace, must be sent to Muslim nations and protected from violence while they teach. The Madrassahs, Islam's schools of terrorism where young children are taught to hate, must be closed down.
It might seem hopeless, but don't despair.
I cheated.

IT'S MONDAY

It's Monday. I'm sort of glad the weekend is over and I can get some badly needed cleanup done here.
The weekend wasn't too bad at work.. but I am still dreaming of being able to retire one day in the near future. God will provide the time when He so chooses. Till then, I'm plugging away at gainful employment.

One of my internet buddies has sparked an interest this weekend in 'end time events'.. so with my curiosity whet, I dug in and started reading a bit more.. I chose Charles Spurgeon as my commentator..he was an ardent evangelical- 19th century. He seems to have so many easy to read essays on about anything you'd want to know about anything Biblical. I'm still reading..



In the mean time, I've been talking to my cousin Nicki too... she is still in the hospital and hopes to be discharged by Tuesday.. she feels the same way about hospitals that I do......nice place to work or visit, but don't like being a patient..don't like needles, prodding , poking or testing..... we agreed that all doctors should have to experience every test they order for their patients. I'm certain there would be far less of the horror tests at that point.
My 'horror test' I've had to endure twice is the TEE- trans esophageal echocardiogram. Though it is so much better than trans-thoracic, it's a nightmare for me- I detest having a wire passed down my gullet. They do anesthetize the throat for this.. but it tastes like kerosene and burns so badly before it takes effect... and then they give you the conscious sedation so you don't remember the rest.. Ack!! In the midst of the first one I had.. I woke up and struggled for breath..not a nice picture..and not a bit pleasant. Oh, well, thank the Lord there are such definitive tests and the results are so much better than the TTE. (but I still pray I won't have to endure another any time soon)

Today is Monday... it's to be a simply beautiful day and I'm going outside to enjoy the weather before it all goes away. Have you noticed the leaves are turning reddish? Sure sign fall is here and winter can't be far behind...
I think winter is beautiful from inside my warm home..... but when I have to drive on the icy roads, it becomes my least favorite season of all..

It's Monday..... I'm off this coming weekend..HOORAY!!! and Wendell and I are planning to go to the annual Park Picnic for families of the employees... it's a catered event.... and sure to be a great day. Paul, Amy , and the grandkids will be sharing that day with us too if we can get them all there. It'll take some planning. They had a collision with a deer about a week ago and their van will be in the repair shop over the weekend.

It's Monday...and exactly 14 Mondays till Christmas..... kind of depressing, eh? Where has 2006 gone? It seems like it just got started and I was just saying how I loved spring so much...and so much has happened this year....
and now the leaves are turning and falling to the ground.. Pretty soon there will be snowflakes in the air..
and then a new year beginning again. In March, Wendell had open heart surgery..he's still recuperating from that... and last December I had a 2nd stroke.... it's slower recuperation this time for me.. but we are healing- one day at a time.
It seems like only last week Wendy said "school is out !!" and they started their vacation..

Today is Monday and I'm not gainfully employed, but I'll be working here.. but it'll be a pleasure to do so. I'm a bit slower in this the autumn of my life, but I am functional and can still do a lot of the things I did years ago.. it just takes me a bit longer. *smile*

It is Monday... this is the day the Lord has made.. let us rejoice and be glad in it !!!

ON THE MEND

I got to talk to Nicki last night when I came home from work. She seems to be in good spirits despite her dilemma with blood clots at the port and PICC sites. In another month she says they will check to see if a new port can be inserted for her treatments.
It's so important to remember to pray.. Keep her high on your list. And pray for the medical team who does her care and planning.
This morning when I got up, I noticed much less edema in my feet and legs.. that is not to say it's gone, just that it's less. The scales reflect a total loss of 5#..... 2# more than yesterday. I think the Lasix is finally kicking in.
How wonderful it is to live in an age where these more or less life threatening things can be handled so swiftly and easily. Thank the Lord for medical advances and for medications that reverse dire illnesses, and praise the Great Physician for his healing hands on us.

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE MEANING OF THE WORD "PATH" IS
Let us revisit, for a moment, Bill Clinton's contortive definitionof the word "is."
This, of course, was the tiny two-letter term he wrestled with during his grand jury testimony in 1998---a testimony during which he lied about his sexual relationship with a young intern named Monica Lewinsky.
Yet even as the forensic evidence made his sworn statements untenable, Clinton refused to 'fess upto what had long since become fodder for Leno and Letterman. And now he's at it again.
This week, those legacy-starved Clintonistas, reacting to an ABC docudrama called "The Path to 9/11," demonstrated that they've not changed a bit since 1998. The five-hour, two-part television series was a calumny, they cried, since it depicted eight years of Clintonian negligence and malfeasance.
This time, we suppose,it depends on what the meaning of the word "path" is...
In a fiery public letter to ABC that none-too-subtly threatened to pull the network's broadcast license, a handful of Democrat senators charged that "presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law."

We have to ask, does "inaccurate misinformation" mean it's true, or what?

The Democratic National Committee warned the Demo faithful that "'The Path to 9/11' is actually a bald-faced attempt to slander Democrats and revise history right before Americans vote in a major election...
The mini-series, which was put together by right-wing conservative writers, relies on the old GOP playbook of using terrorism to scare Americans. [It] mocks the truth and dishonors the memory of 9/11 victims to serve a cheap, callous political agenda. It irresponsibly misrepresents the facts and completely distorts the truth."
Having gotten the memo, the New York Times editorial board was just as quick out the gate, writing, "When attempting to recreate real events on screen, you do not show real people doing things theynever did."
If only such muscular statements were to guide the news content of the Gray Lady---Jayson Blair, call your office.
Theuber-Leftist Nation magazine, ever-present to protect us from ourselves, warned readers that David Cunningham, director of"The Path to 9/11," may be a part of that great conspiracy that threatens us all---evangelical Christianity. "
Cunningham is no ordinary Hollywood journeyman," says The Nation.
"He is in fact the son of Loren Cunningham, founder of the right-wing evangelical group Youth With a Mission..."
"The Path to 9/11" was so offensive, in fact, that Team Clinton wasn't content to let their attack dogs do the dirty work for them.
Referring to a scene in which she alerts the Pakistanis to an upcoming U.S. strike on Osama bin Laden, Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright called her portrayal "false and defamatory."
Clinton White House aide Bruce Lindsey, currently at the helm of the William J. Clinton Foundation, also scolded ABC: "It is unconscionable to mislead the American public about oneof the most horrendous tragedies our country has ever known."
Disgraced former National Security Advisor Sandy "Socks" Berger complained that the film "flagrantly misrepresents my personal actions."
Unfortunately, we'll never know exactly what Berger's "personal actions" were, since his last official act before the 9/11 Commission was to admit to removing classified documents and handwritten notes from the National Archives on two occasions in2003.
Berger destroyed these vital documents, which pertained tothe Clinton administration's record on terrorism. He then pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for his actions and was stripped of his security clearances.
In a letter speaking for Clinton, Lindsey and Clintonista lawyers demanded the network "pull the drama." "The content of this drama,"the claimed, "is factually and incontrovertibly inaccurate and ABC has the duty to fully correct all errors or pull the drama entirely."
ABC responded by announcing a disclaimer that would call the mini-series a "dramatization" containing "fictionalized scenes."
Finally, even Bill Clinton himself came out swinging, but like his impeachment testimony eight years ago, his self-defense quickly turned to self-parody.
"I just want people to tell the truth,you know, and not pretend it's something it's not."
Truth, as we know, is not exactly the lingua franca of the Clintoncrowd. So, assuming that we know what the meaning of "is" is,what is the truth?
For starters, eight long years passed between the first World Trade Center attack in 1993---one month into Bill Clinton's first term in office---and the devastating attacks of September 11,2001, eight months after the end of the Clinton presidency. But while some blame for failing to prevent the attacks must be assumed by the Bush administration, we must also remember that,as journalist and intelligence expert Ronald Kessler concluded,it was not a matter of connecting the dots.
"The truth was that there were no dots to connect."
The reason for this inability to connect the dots---that is, the absence of actionable intelligence against Osama bin Laden and al-Qa'ida---lies squarely at the feet of the Clinton administration.
Bill Clinton has admitted as much. Speaking to the Long IslandAssociation in 2002, he confessed to turning down an opportunity to take custody of bin Laden:
"He was expelled from Saudi Arabia in 1991, then he went to Sudan, and we'd been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again. Theyreleased him.
At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America, so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America."
Perhaps Mr. Clinton forgot that bin Laden had in 1995 been named a conspirator in the first WTC attack.
Later, in his testimony before the 9/11 Commission, Clinton dismissed his own statement as "inappropriate" which is to say, "truthful."
The 9/11 Commission's own conclusions on the Clinton administration's accountability are equally telling.
In 1998, the year that al-Qa'ida bombed our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania,U.S. assets had the opportunity to capture bin Laden at his Tarnak Farms compound in Afghanistan. According to the Commission's report,
"Before it was canceled, [senior CIA operations officer in Afghanistan, Gary] Schroen described it as the 'best plan we are going to come up with to capture [bin Laden] while he is in Afghanistan and bring him to justice.' No capture plan before9/11 ever again attained the same level of detail and preparation."
The Commission Report also asserts that Clinton "effectively relied on the CIA" for counter-terrorism planning, even though Clinton stopped receiving the CIA's Presidential Daily Brief and rarely, if ever, communicated with Director GeorgeTenet (http://PatriotPost.US/news/tenet0404.asp).
Further,while the Clinton administration continued to treat terrorism at home as merely a matter of law enforcement,"the relationship between the [FBI Director [Robert Mueller]http://PatriotPost.US/news/mueller.asp] and the President was nearly nonexistent.
"Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson, who carried the"nuclear football" during the Clinton years, says Clinton missed not one but several opportunities to capture or kill Osama binLaden.
According to Patterson, who consulted on "The Path to 9/11, "Clinton's failures to act against bin Laden directly facilitated a decade of terrorist attacks against the U.S. leading up to9/11. "[W]e could have prevented the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole,we could have prevented 9/11 and we could have prevented the bombings of the embassies in Africa if President Clinton had taken one of these opportunities."
Patterson continued, "We had eight chances at least to either nab bin Laden or to kill him."
Bill Clinton's cowardice all along the path to 9/11 is clearly a disgrace---perhaps even a criminal dereliction.
Let's just pray that the events of September 11,2001 (http://PatriotPost.US/September11/), mark the end of the"Clinton legacy" on terrorism.

FRIDAY POST-September 15

It's morning.. not sure it's a good morning yet or not. I suppose I could say it is because I did wake up, but then , that seems to be where my problems began today too.
No matter how I plan to have a good day, I can usually get a good idea by the amount of pain/or discomfort I have when I put my feet on the floor. Using this as my guideline, I'm not going to have much of a good day today. I'm bearly able to walk or move. When I have these days I become the proverbial 'bull in a china shop'.. and everything within 3 feet of me is in danger of falling. Today is one of those days. No, my coffee is still in the cup where I put it minutes ago, but my medications that I carefully placed in a med cup went over a moment ago, and I have lost one critical one totally. It wouldn't be so bad if I could just bend over and pick them up.... but it's a painful chore..
I take too many meds now.. I never dreamed I'd need all those little pills to keep me healthy.
Mentanx is a B vitamin critical to me to prevent further strokes.. as is Aspirin and Plavix - more or less blood thinners. The Plavix prevents platelets from clumping. Then the 2 Arthritis Strength Tylenols at least once a day, and lately 3X a day.. for the pain. I take Prilosec to prevent gastric upset from all the medications.. And the newest one, Lasix for the swelling in my legs and feet.. the dosage started last Wednesday at 10mg, but has gone to 30mg. It was the half tab of Lasix that I've lost this morning. Of course, when one takes Lasix, one also has to keep the potassium up in the body as Lasix tends to deplete it fast. So, 2 huge Potassium tabs are also ingested every day. And don't forget the Multivitamin and the huge Fish Oil capsule full of antioxidents! By the time I get these all in me, there is no room for breakfast.
I have to weigh myself daily to check the progress of the fluid retention, but just looking at my feet today tells me I haven't lost enough yet. When I saw the doctor last Wednesday I showed him my swollen legs and feet and that's when he changed the treatment to Lasix. It got a lot worse before starting to recede. At one point, I couldn't get any shoes on for some time.. and the extra 10# of fluid weight didn't help. Well, I'm down 3# yesterday.. no change today.
At least I didn't gain it back..

The nice part about having my own blog is that I can whine all I want, and if you don't want to read it, you just skip over it to something more pleasant..... *smile*

Wendell went back to work yesterday and when he got home he looked like someone had beaten him with a club. He is bearly walking.. the Synvisc is ordered. He's going to have both knees worked on.... it'll take a total of 6 weeks. Hopefully, he'll be able to get clearance for surgery at that point, and get a new knee. JJ and I are already working on getting the OR team that we want. It takes a while when you are going for an elective surgery than having something done on an emergency basis.

Growing older is not something we are doing well. But it does make us very aware of the brittle thread of life God has given each of us. It makes us rely on Him so much more.

Yesterday's rain gave new meaning to 'when it rains, it pours'..... UGH. I went to work in a downpour. Soaked to the gills! Roads were flooded everywhere.. and in places that have not flooded before. I sat in my car at 8am waiting for a reprieve, but it seems none was given, so I got out and walked to the office in a pouring rain. I don't move fast. I was drenched again and feeling chilled from it all. My first patient wasn't due till 9:30 thankfully, and by that time I was dried out pretty much. Cheerfully the first patients came in and said to me "What a fabulous day! No rain, sun shining , and the temperature is perfect!" I thought they'd been out in the rain so much their brains were soggy. I had to look for myself. Would you believe there was no rain, streets were dry, and the sun was shining? Beautiful day! It wouldn't be a total loss after all. I was beginning to think I'd dreamed all that water everywhere. BUT......
when I was done for the day and was walking to my car, the first drops hit me...... and by the time I pulled out of the parking lot, we were in the midst of yet another deluge!!
I am thankful that God knows exactly how much rain to put on this earth and where, and when.
If I had that control, I'd probably make it rain late at night only. But as I think about it, we'd miss the blessing of the rainbow- the sign of God's promise to never destroy the world with water again.
I think I was just so tired from trying to sleep the night before when the power went out for several hours... I'd awakened gasping for breath.. of course , the CPAP doesn't work during power outages. I'd only had a couple hours sleep.

Enough for now.. I'd apologize for the 'unloading' but then, you can just read past this post if you so desire. But I hope you read the part where I ask you to pray... it's really very important.
I see the sun is shining.. and the Tylenols seem to have kicked in.. hmmmmm maybe the day won't be as bad as I thought...

Nicki is having her share of problems of late. Her port is out and her temporary PICC-line is causing her problems too. She's in the hospital. Please remember her with prayer daily. The port is not to be replaced for several months, and her treatments may be delayed by this.

CHICKEN LOVERS DAY..BUK BUK

At our house, chicken is frequent .. for dinner... but at Charlie's place, they are lovingly referred to as "the girls".. It's CHICKEN LOVERS DAY today.. Charlie's girls supply us with tons of eggs almost all year round. They get slower in the fall, but some summer days the production goes to 2 dozen/day.

SEPTEMBER 13~HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICK


Rick and I have been friends for years. He was my first PT many years ago when he lived in this area. He is now Dr. Rick and is still the greatest PT I know of and a wonderful friend.

WENDELL'S KNEES


When it rains, it pours.. or so it seems. Today Wendell came to the office for another appointment with the rheumatologist. His Xrays showed some startling things.. like bone on bone in his left knee.. the doctor says he needs a knee replacement and the sooner the better.
The right one actually gives him more pain, and no wonder.. he has some spurs that look like stalagmites you might see in a cavern. They have sharp points on them that are digging into the femur. OUCH! This is the knee he had injected with Cortisone to reduce the inflammation and swelling. So far, ice has not helped either. He has a slip to see a Physical Therapist for an evaluation. (Rick, you live too far away.)
As bad as the Xrays look, I'm amazed that he's been ambulatory at all. Poor guy feels like he's falling apart piece by piece.

OH, MY ACHING BACK

WHINE WHINE WHINE......
I had an MRI of the lower back done on Saturday. My back has been aching and hips freezing up when I try to walk distances. MRIs aren't much fun.. Not invasive, but laying on a hard slab while listening to a jackhammer in your ears makes it a little miserable. I'm semi-claustrophobic too. I have had 2 other MRIs in the past and have had the techs cover my eyes with a washcloth while they proceeded with the test. Cool air flows around you while you are in the tunnel (more like a tomb), and that gives you the sensation that you have more space around you. The first MRI I had, I could see under the washcloth, and panicked. My heart raced and I started to sweat.. the walls of this tomb are about an inch from the face! It took all the strength I had and a lot of prayer to get through the test, and I promised myself that if I ever had to have another one, not only would I request blinders, but I'd keep my eyes tightly shut no matter what.
In the mean time, after the test this week, it took 2 techs to put me on my feet again. The pain was so intense. You would have thought my entire spine was dotted with herniated nucleus pulposes. Not so...... the results say 'mild broad bulging of the L4-5 disk'~ the keyword here is MILD.. Statistics show that there is a large portion of the general populace that have bulging disks, but don't even know it. They find out when they strain their backs and have the MRIs done...
I've been fairly asymptomatic for a few years.. but here I am again having back problems. It is mild apparently, but you can't convince me of that when I can't bend over to load the dishwasher.
I'll stop whining now..

What is a billion???
The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual manner, think about whether you want the "politicians" spending your tax money.

WHERE WERE YOU?

Just as November 22, 1963 when our President John F Kennedy was shot and killed, we will likely all remember September 11, 2001 as a day of infamy when innocent victims were murdered at the hands of terrorists.

I can still visualize the horror I felt as I sat in Chemistry class while they broadcast the President's assassination over the PA. I didn't like Chemistry, but liked this even less. It was a time when everything stood still for days it seemed. It shocked the entire nation.

September 11 arrived one morning in 2001. I wasn't even dressed yet when my Mom came as fast as she could to our house, turned on our television and cried. "Our country is being attacked" she informed me. And we both sat down and watched the coverage on the tv.
Another horror.. and unbelief. How could this have happened? Horrified and stunned...and for many months we would hear of nothing else in the news. The strangest thing was that living near an airport, we are constantly aware of planes taking off and the flight paths go nearly overhead..... but for a time, not one plane was in the air... nothing. Total silence. Our country was wounded, but we would survive another day.

In both of these times, we were drawn closer to our Lord and he gave peace and comfort. I feel sorry for those who don't know Him~ it must be doubly hard to deal with the 'whys'.
For Christians, we know that every detail has already been planned for this world. And more important, we KNOW that God sits on His throne- and he is fully in charge of all things. He is the creator, we the creation. He has already told us to expect trials and tribulation.. but He is there to help us through it all, and the blessings await at the end.

So, just curious here....... where were you when John Kennedy was assassinated that day in November? And where were you when Satan and his leagues attempted to destroy us on September 11? Lest we forget.......

GRANDPARENTS

I have only had the honor of knowing 2 of my grandparents.. both grandmothers. i never had the joy of knowing either of my grandfathers.
I love being a grandmother myself. It's a special thing.. a relationship, bond, or connection to the next generation. Where there is often a gap between parent and child, that gap is bridged by grandparents.
Wendell and I are blessed by 7 little ones. At Christmas this year, that number will become 8, and by next April, we will be blessed by 9 little ones. Grandchildren have become a main focus of our lives. We love each one for who they are.
I have adjusted well to being a grandparent. I wasn't sure at first just how to 'be one'. But time has corrected that, and now I do all the things grandmas love to do .. like bake cookies with the children, or make brownies, or crafts, or take long walks, or just sit down and watch a movie with them. Ah.. this is the life.
Though I can't get down much any more because of arthritis, I do try to do the fun things with the grandchildren. The winter before last, I rode the sled in the yard and we made a snowman together.. and a fort. Such fun. I hope my grandchildren will think back one day about the fun gramma they had, and laugh.
When I was growing up, my grandmas were both quite elderly and couldn't do those things with me. My memory of them is a sweet one of little old ladies who had soft voices.
My own children knew their Grandma Imm, but not all knew Grandpa Imm. My Mom was dear to my children's hearts to the day she died. She had a 'special' bond with each of them that they carry with them even today. None knew Wendell's Mom...nor did I, but I know she was a wonderful grandma. All our children knew Wendell's Dad, but not all remember well the fun they had with him.. he took them places, bought them ice cream, and taught them about nature without planning to do so.
My desire is just to be remembered to my children in that way.. not the little old lady with the soft voice,though there is nothing wrong with that, but the Gramma who rode the sleds, started the snowball fights, planned crafts, and baked goodies. The Gramma who supplies the 'treat of the month' for them. And yet even more, the Gramma who loves the Lord more than life and shares that with them in everything she does.
One last thing.. I have had the honor and privilege of giving all my grandchildren their first home baths. I am hoping that this will be continued with the next 2 babies due to arrive in the next few months.
I'm proud of every one of my grandchildren.. can you tell? I am truly blessed.

EUNICE HIXON

Eunice Lottie-Etta Turner Hixon, 66, of Old Route 8, Middlesex Township, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday at her home.
Born Sept. 13, 1939, in Callery, she was the daughter of William Ray Turner and Eleanor Thompson.She was a member of the Evangel Heights Assembly of God in Sarver.
She was a homemaker and she worked as a licensed practical nurse at Sunnyview Home and Valencia Woods Nursing Center.
She also did private duty nursing.
She enjoyed crafts and traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Hixon, whom she married on Jan. 25, 1957;
three sons, Eugene D. (Kimberly J.) Hixon and Barry Hixon, both of Butler, and Daniel M. (Rebecca L.)Hixon of Renfrew; a daughter, Joy and her husband, Dr. Robin K. Cetnar of Butler;

12 grandchildren, Kristen Joy Hixon, Justin E. Hixon, Rachel K. Hixon, Joel R. Hixon, Luke D. Hixon, Todd D. Hixon, Kevin J. Hixon, Chad M. Hixon, Ashley J. Cetnar, Christopher W. R. Cetnar, Alexander D. Cetnar and Noah B. Cetnar; a brother, Berdette (Grace) Turner of Butler, three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Gwendolyn) Wood of Butler, Mrs. Roger (Phyllis) Bacon of Canada, and Mrs. Nelson (Eileen) James of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.

HIXON — Friends of Eunice Lottie-Etta Turner Hixon, who died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Pastor John Kurt and Pastor Gary Bracewell, both of Evangel Heights Assembly of God, officiating.
Interment will follow in Brownsdale Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Evangel Heights Christian Assembly, 120 Beale Road, Sarver, PA 16005.

The real work
On October 20, 1968, a dramatic moment took place at the Mexico City Olympics. A few thousand spectators remained in the almost-dark Olympic Stadium awaiting one last runner.
Finally the wail of police sirens ripped the air.
As all eyes turned to the gate, a lone runner wearing the colors of Tanzania staggered into the stadium. John Stephen Akhwari was the last contestant to finish the 26-mile contest.
He had injured his leg in a fall and entered the track bloodied and crudely bandaged.
While he hobbled the final, lonely lap, spectators rose and applauded him as if he had won.
After the race, someone asked him why he had refused to quit.
"My country did not send me 7,000 miles to start the race," he replied simply.
"They sent me 7,000 miles to finish it."
To help us achieve a strong finish in our race of faith, Jesus Christ promised that "Whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man will also confess before the angels of God."
You too can finish the race well by eagerly confessing Christ before others.

TEDDY BEAR DAY

It's Teddy Bear Day! What a cute idea. I don't have any memory of ever owning one of my own. But I do love them~ soft and cuddly. I made certain all my children had Teddy Bears- perhaps from the lack of one for myself.

Accordingly, in honor of the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, in tribute to the American soldiers fighting in the Global War on Terrorism, and in observance of Patriot Day, effective September 11, 2006, until sunset, Governor Bush in accordance with the Proclamation, has asked that all states and local governments join him in honoring these patriots by flying their United States and State flags at half staff.

FULL MOON

Chilly here.. 56 degrees.. brrrrrrrrrrrr....I suppose that means I'll have to get my fall jacket out now. And have you seen that gorgeous full moon? Unfortunately, it brings a lot of the 'loonies' out from under rocks all over the place. I could cite example after example.. yesterday was a wonderful day, but on my way to and from work.. people pulling out in front of me made me a bit more cautious while driving. And yes, more than normal.. It seemed like a lot of folks were really on edge too. I noticed. For myself, I noticed that I dropped things more often all day.. even my patients noticed it and teased me about it.. but it wasn't normal for me to drop things so often.. nothing of value.. wrappers for alcohol swabs.. things like that.
That's the full moon.. funny. Over the years working in the hospital I have noted that the "Code Yellow" alarms go off just prior to the full moon and then a day or so after. You rarely hear that alarm till then. When I was a student nurse on my psychiatric affiliation, one of our orientation points was that we were to lock EVERYTHING in our personal closets during that week. Of course, I spent 20+ years working in the obstetrics department.. and I assure you that our busiest time of the month was...... you guessed it.. the day before the full moon~ and generally speaking, there is always a calm before the storm.
Well.. those are my observations.
I suppose now is a good time to gloat about my recent labwork. For the 1st time EVER.. my lipid profile is well within normal limits. I'm so pleased. It has to be the Vytorin that has made the difference. Here's the breakdown:
Cholesterol 174 (desirable to be <200)
Triglycerides 160 ( desirable to be 40-200)
HDL 58 (desirable to be >55)
LDL 84 (desirable to be 0-130)
the Chol/HDL ratio 3.0 (coronary risk increased with >4.0)

I'm pretty sore today. Shoulders and back are aching severely. I'm up at 3am taking Tylenol for the pain. It is likely the result of trying to break a fall for one of my patients yesterday who fainted. I was able to hang on to her and let her down fairly easily. She was uninjured by the fall~ So thankful for that. But I'm feeling the results of it myself today. In fact last night I was so sore and it wasn't time for any more Tylenol, so I went to bed before 9pm.. unusual for me.
When I got home finally last evening, I was spent. I got my car unloaded and walked in the door. Wendell was there to greet me.. but all I could say was "Please make me a cup of coffee- I'll be in the bedroom".. He kindly obliged and we sat down and talked about our day and the things that happened. There was no way I'd be able to cook supper tonite. Mandy to the rescue.. in moments she had chicken and steak on the grill.. and made us grilled chicken / steak salads.... oh...... thank you Lord for providing us with extra hands.
That's about enough rambling for now.....

WEDNESDAY-ONE CRAZY DAY

Well, yesterday was one busy busy day.. I got up early to have my bloodwork drawn .. then visited the Podiatrist for a check up for my feet. He seemed pleased that I've been doing quite well and adapted quickly to my custom orthotics..
Then I went home for a couple hours.. called all my patients for today, and off to see my PCP for my check up post stroke.
He also was pleased with my progress, but was a little annoyed at my problem with my hips 'freezing up' when I'm walking distances.. so Saturday I have an MRI scheduled to see if there is any new pathology there. Back pain is chronic for me, but the freezing up of my hips is fairly new.
He changed some of my meds at my request.. I'll pick those up today.
By the time I got home, I was pretty tired of all the running around, and when Amanda got home, she suggested we go out to supper. I thought it was our turn to pay, but found out later it was their treat..... how nice is that??

Wendell has been wanting to try the Olive Garden, and so we did. The food was incredible.... we will definitely return again. Our waiter, Greg, was fabulous.. animated and very helpful and professional at his duty. We gave him highest ratings.
We were going to stop at Starbucks to buy a little coffee from "Coffeemaster" Keith, but he had finished his shift at 1pm yesterday, so we'll go another day.

Interesting .. the very last words in our Bible. It brings a lot of things to mind.. like adding books to it .. or augmenting it with another book.. a Holy book??
It also brings to mind passages that are distasteful to some, and so these passages are ignored or removed.. at least from memory. Things that cause our conscience to stir and we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings now, do we? Or do we?
To those who belong to the Lord, the WHOLE of scripture is truth.. not just the parts that appeal to us at a given moment. If you deny even one verse, you have denied the entire book and denied Christ in doing so.

It should be common sense. If you pass by a disabled vehicle or traffic stop, you give the police officers, tow-truck drivers or other people working the scene a wide berth.

Effective Sept. 8, the "Steer Clear" law will require drivers to move into a "nonadjacent lane" when approaching an emergency scene, police stop or a tow truck picking up a disabled car.

If that isn't possible because of traffic or other considerations, drivers at least must slow to a "careful and prudent reduced speed" as they pass. Otherwise, failure to move over becomes a summary offense that carries a fine of up to $250.

Under current law, fines are doubled for traffic violations committed in work zones or emergency-response scenes.

On Sept. 8, fines also will be doubled for infractions near police traffic stops, a tow truck picking up a disabled vehicle or maintenance crews working at the roadside.
If a worker is hurt as a result of the violation, the charge would carry with it a 90-day license suspension.

The law, signed by Gov. Ed Rendell this summer, will come into play any time an emergency-services vehicle has its lights flashing, or where road crews or fire police have lighted flares, posted signs or otherwise tried to put motorists on notice.

"As long as they're giving a warning to the motorist, the motorist should be able to slow down or move over," said Eric Bugaile, an aide to House Transportation Committee Chairman Rick Geist, R-Altoona. Geist was a sponsor of the bill.

The statute also lets police issue citations based on after-the-fact reports from road-crew workers or others who felt threatened by a close call.
"You're talking about people who are out there doing good for the general public, so we felt it was very important that they at least have some awareness by the motorists that they should try to control their speed," Bugaile said.

Pennsylvania is not breaking ground in this area.
Nearly three dozen states have adopted some form of a steer-clear law, which has been lobbied for by law enforcement groups and the towing industry for years.

The consequences of what some in the business call a "dusting" could be more severe than jangled nerves or dinged equipment:
In January 2005, Myerstown mechanic Robert Bye was killed on Interstate 78 in Lebanon County when he was struck by a truck as he was working on a disabled rig.
Three Pennsylvania troopers have been killed when struck by motorists passing accidents scenes or other traffic stops since 1999. Most recently, Trooper Tod Kelly was hit in 2001 by a sport utility vehicle as he was removing debris from Interstate 79.

State police also report that marked cars -- during stops when they have had overhead lights flashing -- were struck from behind 38 times from January 2005 through March.

Johnson, the tow-truck driver, said he believes the law will prove difficult to enforce, if for no other reason than it's hard to get the license plate numbers of cars whizzing by at 60 mph.
But he hopes the statute can have a positive impact as an educational device.

"My hope is that as new drivers learn how to drive, this will be one of the things that they teach them," Johnson said. "Our hope is that everybody can look at it from our perspective, try to visualize what it would be like working there and cut them a little break."

JJ and I worked on a scavenger hunt for the 3 oldest children today.. the clues we thought were medium difficulty, but with the team effort, they asked the right people the right questions and got everything they had to find.


JJ gave the kids directions.. and off they went... Clue #1.. Soft and tickles.. long or short...

LABOR DAY PICNIC ..3


Traditionally, Labor Day is a day when our family had the last blast of the summer. Today was no different. The weather was fabulous.. in the mid 70s, and no rain. The kids had a really good time I think. We all brought something to the picnic..

I got a picture of everyone except Wendell, Keith, and myself... rats!! I wanted to get everyone this time.





There's always next year.. we'll see what happens at Christmas.. we should ALL be together then.

LABOR DAY

Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States since the 1880s. The September date has remained unchanged, even though the government was encouraged to adopt May 1 as Labor Day, the date celebrated by the majority of the world. Moving the holiday, in addition to breaking with tradition, could have been viewed as aligning the U.S. labor movements with internationalist sympathies.

Labor Day is generally regarded simply as a day of rest and, unlike May Day, political demonstrations are rare. Forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water activities, and public art events. Families with school-age children take it as the last chance to travel before the end of summer. Some teenagers and young adults view it as the last weekend for parties before returning to school.

BUTTERFLIES

I love butterflies.. they are God's handiwork in this world. Walking through the garden, I see so many of them.. moths too, but mostly butterflies. They flit from one flower to the next as if they haven't a care in the world. As if they haven't a clue that winter is coming.. and yet, I think they do, and they are industrious little creatures. Working hard to get enough strength to reproduce themselves next year..we could take some advice from them. I cringe at the sight of the caterpiller, but admire the beauty of it's metamorphosis. We are like that too.. cringing at the ugliness of sin in our lives, and yet, God promises a metamorphosis in us too.. and we will be like Him.. beautiful .. !!

LISTERINE DOES WHAT????

I just bought a bottle of Listerine mouth wash. No, not to gargle, but to treat my tooth-brushes. I just read an article that says it will kill millions and millions of microbes that have taken residence there in the brush of the tool I use in my mouth every day. Then I read more about it.. there are so many uses for Listerine.
Easing the itch of Shingles, psoriasis, general itching.. and dandruff if rubbed on the affected areas.
The combination of thymol, eucalyptol, methylsalicylate and menthol in an alcohol base may have antifungal activity.That could explain why others report that original formula Listerine works against nail fungus, athlete's foot, jock itch and "trucker's bottom" (whatever that is).

"Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash" says another article. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenailslooking healthy again.

According to Joey Green's Wacky Uses website, these are some more things it's good for..

* Cure Acne. Use a cotton ball to dab Listerine on blemishes.
*Fertilize a lawn. Jerry Baker, author of The Impatient Gardener, suggests mixing one cup Listerine, one cup Epsom salts, one cup liquid soap, and one cup ammonia in a one-quart jar, filling the rest of the jar with beer. Spray this on up to 2,500 square feet of lawn with a hose-attached sprayer in May and again in late June.
*Use as a deodorant. Listerine helps kill the bacteria that cause perspiration odor. Dab it under your arms. (not sure I'd try that one)
*Eliminate mildew odors. Wipe with full-strength Listerine.
*Disinfect wounds. Listerine works as an astringent when poured on a laceration or abrasion.
*Disinfect a washing machine at a laundromat. To avoid getting germs from another family, wipe off the surface of the machine with Listerine and add one-half cup Listerine to the wash cycle to disinfect the machine.

And this from the Peoples Pharmacy:
More than 100 years ago Listerine was developed as an antiseptic. At first, surgeons used it in the operating room, but before long it became a household brand.
The Lambert Pharmaceutical Company marketed Listerine aggressively to treat dandruff as well as bad breath.
One 1927 ad shows fingers pointing at the shoulders of a man wearing a dark suit. The copy reads, "Guilty! End dandruff. It offends all,this disgusting and common condition. Consequently, it affects your chances in love, society and business."
Another ad of the same era reads, "Unwelcome! Dandruff is avoidable. What do all your graces and charms amount to if you have dandruff? Notmuch. Today, dandruff is an unpardonable social offense.You simply douse Listerine, the safe antiseptic, on your scalp full strength and massage thoroughly."
These amusing ads have disappeared, in part because such a hard sell is no more socially acceptable than dandruff itself. In addition, the makers of Listerine no longer promote their product against dandruff.
This has not deterred readers of our column from touting the benefits of Listerine against dandruff.
One reader confessed: "Back in the mid 1900s when Listerine used to be advertised to combat bad breath, it was also recommended to cure dandruff. I began massaging it into my scalp for 30 seconds every morning, and I still do. I have never had dandruff since then."
Another reader reminisced: "I remember that years ago, the Listerine bottle included instructions for use in treating dandruff. I've used straight Listerine many times with 100 percent success within two to three days."
We have also heard from animal lovers. One man said the vet hadrecommended a mixture of Listerine and mineral oil for hot spots in his dog's fur. And a horsewoman in Washington said: "A newly purchased filly had rubbed her mane and tail off. My farrier recommended the Listerine treatment-1/3 Listerine (original), 1/3 baby oil and 1/3water. Put in a spray bottle, shake well and spray it on. Within a few months, her mane and tail were growing out nicely."
Other readers have exercised their ingenuity. Some have used Listerine as a lice preventive: "We were in the Army and moved a lot,but my kids never got lice. Teachers asked me why, since all the otherchildren did. I put Listerine on their hair and scalp a week before school started. Be careful to keep it out of eyes."
Others maintain that Listerine, with its combination of essential oils, works to discourage toenail fungus: "I applied Listerine to my toenail fungus twice a day. It was very bad, and now, after four months, it is 98 percent gone."
Perhaps the most unusual use of Listerine is to calm the pain that follows shingles: "My aunt has had shingles and constant pain for ten years. Nothing her dermatologist or the pain management specialist prescribed has worked, but the first night she tried Listerine on her skin, she was pain-free for the first time in years. She is still pain-free after 6 days."
Listerine has not been approved by the FDA for any of these novel uses. Nevertheless, many readers still value it as an inexpensive old-fashioned remedy.

BLOGGING IN THE MORNING

Morning is the best time to sit down with a cup of coffee and blog. I've sort of made it my habit, and then go on to read other blogs... Wendy, JJ, Jane, Jeremy, etc.
I've found blogging to be a valuable tool to keep family and friends informed about happenings around here.
Though it's a chilly morning today, there is no rain seen yet as forecast by our local prognosticators. September is here, and that means fall is approaching rapidly followed by winter. I really wasn't bored with summer yet. It seemed like we only had a few really warm days, or was I in the air conditioning too much? We are in a Flash Flood Watch status this morning, though our home is not in a flood area. The city of Butler does flood yearly, but not to the disaster point like JJ and I observed earlier this year up in New York. They are waiting to see what Ernesto is going to bring them this weekend. Our God is awesome and powerful and He controls the winds and the rain. Pray that He will be there for Wendy and Cory, that what damages occur will be tolerable and minimal if that.
I suggest you watch Wendy's blog for more details of what is happening there, and then I'll keep my blog watch here too.
I'm gainfully employed this weekend~ it'll be a long one I'm sure.
Remember to pray daily, not just for us, but for those who will be affected by the floods..this weighs heavy on my mind and heart. I'd suggest praying for Sean too. He is going into a 'new world' much as our ancestors did years ago when they came to America. Pray that God will provide Christian friends for him there. And remember Nicki too as she struggles with cancer and makes her trips routinely to Chicago from California.
