COLD FINGERS = LOW OXYGEN READINGS- DUH

"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
I Thessalonians 5:18

Well, don't we feel a little silly.. It's been 3 days of a cold snap and 3 days Wendell has been bundled in his fleece blanket trying to stay toasty. For the past 3 mornings, his oxygen saturation has been running in the 80% range. Each morning after the check, I've put him on 2 liters of oxygen to get the sats up.
I discussed this with the VNA nurse today. We tried to figure out all the reasons why he would seem just fine with no shortness of breath, but show up so low on the readings. We decided to try to check him out again.. So he took the oxygen off and the nurse checked his lungs- clear; then his incisions- clean and healing; redressed the ones that needed it, and then rechecked the oxygen sats- should have been in the 90% range, but no, reading in the low 80s again. We tried using his other fingers, but all came up low. Finally, I thought of using his toes.. after all, he had heavy warm socks on, and they'd been under that fleece for an hour.
Well...... what d'ya know- 94% !! Live and learn , eh? Cold fingers = low sats.
We had been discussing the possible oxygen requirement for use all day instead of just at night, but in this discovery, all is well and back to normal again.
Just one more thing to thank the Lord for... AMEN

Nice job with the links in the sidebar. FYI -- Those that say "Edit me" can be removed entirely from your template. It won't harm anything.
